In the Supreme Court, there are 8 associate judges. There is also a chief justice, who is the head judge. Justices can serve for life, unless they want to retire. The Justices job is to interpret laws passed by Congress. There have been more than a 100 justices over the past, all male. But recently, Sandra Day O'Connor became the first woman justice. She retired in 2006. The current Chief Justice is John Roberts.
